If I told you that a manning was starting at UT and the biggest matchup of the week was UT v OU, I bet you'd get both UTs wrong

[-] [email protected] 1 points 57 minutes ago* (last edited 54 minutes ago)

That's unfortunately predominant with most changes to the sport. Playoffs, clock rules, coaching aids. But no one is taking the time to ask why these things hadn't already come to the sport. CFB will generate it's own innovation that is suitable for the sport. Heck, gatorade was invented because the gators are so bad and they were desperate to be competitive with foes from superior climates. Video review came to the sport just about when it came to the pros, because it's suited for both versions of the game. College football had already put AC in practice helmets at LSU, yet no coach was lobbying for headsets though the tech had been officially adopted by the pros over a decade ago.

If we're doing a playoff at all, I'm glad it's 12 to get the first round on campus. That at least appeals to the actual strengths of the sport.

A mystery ballot that also ranked NIU 4!

I like this ballot

[-] [email protected] 0 points 8 hours ago

Apparent to me:

  • Lots of movement this week, much more than anticipated. Whether that's from eye test metrics or super niche stats is going to depend on the ballot
  • 26 spots this week with a tie for 25th
  • This week everyone who dropped out still got some pity points
  • Mizzou moves up with that performance?
  • We really just bumped up TN after kicking an onside kick while up 30 in the 1st quarter against Kent St? Subscribe
  • Speaking of, this is the highest c/cfb has ever ranked the top 10ESSEE Vols (3)!
  • Most voters seem to be dumping their Louisville stock, but Penn State takes a massive 8 spot slide
  • ND ranked above NIU?!?!
  • Memphis beats ^23^FSU and doesn't get a single vote
  • Lots of fresh faces low in the poll, welcome to the side banner new teams!

fwiw, I think that trying to remain loyal is helpful. Having just been through a 2 decade coaching rigamaroll, I think part of what caused our downturn to last so long was our quick turnover rate, especially early in that stretch. With that said, I think that attitude kept me on the Pruitt bandwagon far longer than needed, and resentful when we acquired Heupel. But it seems like we finally found our guy and that things have stabilized. But as I've said before, I'm gonna be gator-chompin on some popcorn with action like this in Gainesville.

The helmet communications are hilarious to me. You see the qb with his hands over his ears desperately trying to hear, and its like, didn't we solve this problem already?

[-] [email protected] 2 points 9 hours ago* (last edited 1 hour ago)

I was already done with the expanded playoff in week 1 when people were still outlining FSU's (then open) path to the playoff. Likewise I think that ND should be out of contention with the loss to NIU. I've said it before and I'll say it again, in a sport as intrinsically unbalanced as cfb, any playoff (much less an expanded one) makes no sense.

Look at those vomitoriums, those things are huge!

This is one of the things that I think White did well with the Stadium upgrade. Keeping that type of seating in the upper bowl is the way it should be done. If you're there to casually engage with the sport, do it at a casual distance. I frequented the Rockies' stadium when I was in CO and their equivalent beer lounge is on the upper deck way down the right field side and that was perfect positioning both from an insider and outsider perspective. DKR of course takes it to a whole new level

Yup, saw this on VN. Was gonnna try and leave it there lol...

The athletics department had put out a PR piece earlier this week, so I knew they were trying to build some good will. I'm out West so I don't get to home games :( but the family has told me that the new experience is incredible and that as long as you're not in a box or on the party deck the college atmosphere remains. In this age of 'hyperinflation' I'm not sure I honestly have a problem with this, especially since I agree with where the extra 10% is going. While I don't love it, I think White did the best he could with the situation to make his continued ambitious goals a reality.

I think obvious strikes and home runs, like banning advertising that shows how gambling works seems like abstinence only education. But no advertising during sports events is a slam dunk, to switch to another non football sport analogy.

Got nothing against rap, but if I were a Buff this would be enough for me to automatically call for Dieon's head. The pageantry of CFB is what sets it apart from the sterile Sunday games
