Since it's mentioned there on a side note, I'd like to note that Kubernetes (while I agree on the point of it introducing a lot of additional complexity) can be a tool precisely to counter vendor lock-in, because it simplifies deploying a complex setup in a different hosting environment (regardless of whether it's on-premise or a different cloud provider).
