@[email protected] Last week at work I got an email from a sales manager asking if we'd like to be hooked up with "green" printer toner. As in, an "eco" product whose entire existence depends on us cutting down trees. I couldn't believe it.

Their parent company's website had a little box labelled, "You're in good company" - Google, Tesla, McDonalds, and A P P L E.

A scam ๐˜ข๐˜ฏ๐˜ฅ a bullshit job: having to pretend you're doing your bit to avert catastrophe, yet knowing your product would be a net harm.

@[email protected] I seem to recall one passionate pro-Apple commenter specifically argue that Beeper Mini somehow hacked/trespassed on Apple's infrastructure/IP, thus the weakened security of iMessage.

They're not necessarily wrong in the claim that Beeper Mini is a hack. It is, in the sense it subverts the assumption that only Apple devices can use Apple services. It's also quite ironic:

  1. iChat used to support multiple protocols;
  2. What Beeper did to Apple, Apple did to Microsoft with iWork.
