They don't even have a name :( We haven't gotten to naming them yet, but they will definitely still be around!

Sorry, I think I never replied to you. The physical server itself is already running proxmox VE 8.0, which is based on debian. Yiffit itself is running on ubuntu within proxmox and that won't change since migration will consist on shutting down the VM, making an exportable backup copy, sending the copy over to the new server and restoring the backup :P
It's quite easy and I already did a test run this afternoon, although without network connectivity to avoid the old backup sending out traffic to the world.
Hmmm... anyone knows the resources a matrix instance uses? Depending on how much is I could host one as long as someone helps with sysadmin management.
I messaged Dessalines and proposed a feature to have them block our communities while we could keep getting their content and participating in their communities.
:(
The same happened with feddit.de way in the beginning.
On the flip side I hope this helps the lemmy devs see why it would be useful to have better content filtering options for users and instance admins. Blocking us outright hurts federation as a whole. I'll reach out to them in a few days.
Try vocaroo! It's a free service without signup.
I heard on the news that no one survived.
And here I thought this was the nurse from the 90s, https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beverley_Allitt
But, no. This apparently happened in 2015. Creepy how both cases are so similar.
It should be a signature that is sent together with the ActivityPub Object. Yes, if the signature doesn't match, the content, whether a post, comment, favorite, upvote, etc... should be dropped.
Here is the source code of the library that lemmy uses to handle incoming objects and you can see that it does a call to verify the signature of the actor:
Messages are sent with a digital signature that only the original instance could craft.
Every fucking time. And here I thought I was the only one.
Yes, our yeen icon. Yiffit -> Yeen, both start with Y.
