They probably do, but they also wipe out populations of small marsupials like bilbies. Most Australians aren’t familiar with these animals. They’re often nocturnal & very shy. We know about & love our kangaroos, koalas etc (even as we allow habitat destruction to result in koalas becoming endangered), but we give little thought to the smaller nocturnal marsupials.

Most of the cats doing that are feral cats. They are highly adaptable and are common even in remote, arid areas. This is not to say that domestic cats aren’t a problem, & I’m all for sterilisation & keeping them indoors. But domestic cats are only a small part of the problem.

Which is what this is about. The number of later term abortions is tiny, but this would get them a foot in the door & reopen debate.

@silence7

Yes, we need to stop this, now.

Oh, I’m touched, & a tear (or two) has sprung to my eyes.

I learned to type on an old office typewriter at school in the 70s, & again on an old teleprinter in the 80s, but nothing so quaint & elegant as that! I write mostly on my phone, but keep meaning to use my neglected laptop, as I’m sure using my phone this much is not good for me.

There are many inspiring folk on here, including some who don’t always agree with (& sometimes, sadly, misunderstand) me.

I hope being here brings you the same level of acceptance, empathy, support & useful resources that it has for me. (Or even more!)

@ininewcrow I think the problem is when there is no one on the other side with whom it is possible to engage in reasonable discussion. When the leadership of one side have shown time & time again that they are dishonest, untrustworthy, & not even sufficiently well informed & self aware to know when their cause is struggling, let alone lost.

And when both sides see the other this way, & are unwilling to look at themselves, or to see similarities with the current enemy which might be used as a foundation for peace…
