I really enjoy using AI character chat for roleplaying, but I’ve noticed that after a while, the AI tends to get stuck in a loop or "tunnel vision." Here's what I mean:

Repetitive Content (Too Much Romance/NSFW): When I start a session, everything is fine, but over time, the AI's focus seems to narrow. For example, if there’s any kind of romantic or NSFW moment in the story, the AI eventually latches onto it. After a while, it feels like the AI shifts to making every single message about romance or NSFW content, no matter what I try to do.

Character Obsession with One Goal: Another example is when a character has a specific goal. Initially, it talks about a few different things, which is great. But over time, it seems to focus entirely on that one goal, no matter what the context of the conversation is. For example, one character I interacted with became fixated on “getting more powerful to take over the world,” to the point where every conversation began with, “But first, I have to get more powerful...” It became its catchphrase and made the interaction feel repetitive.

Does anyone else experience this, or have any tips on how to keep the conversation dynamic and balanced?

From what I've noticed, I think if you attach a lorebook to a character, it follows them to whatever thread you import them into and it will effect only their replies. If you want the main character to also use the quest character's lore, put it in their lore section, too.

Lastly, don't forget to /lore and click the button (import/update, I can't remember what it says) on each character. When I first started using it, I would forget to do the /lore and thought it wasn't working.

I started out with the Game Master character. Over the session, it created an NPC that I liked and decided to make its own character. So I created it using the "Unknown" preset, called it Rya and made a Rentry lore page for her.

I inserted her into the Game Master thread and it worked pretty well. I understand that the GM character has its own lore and memories. But how do memories and lore work for Rya?

  • Can it save things and remember them for RP in separate thread?
  • Does the AI write on the Rentry/text file?
  • Can I use the same Rentry/text file on different characters? I was thinking about uploading a text file on the GM that Rya shares so it could move with her to other threads.

Now the GM Character:

  • Can it reference generators?
  • I would like it to use some guidelines so I modified its instructions (pasted below). Or would this be better entered in a lore page?
  • I was thinking that I would write my characters normal message plus a roll: /user I search for treasure (I roll a fail, interpret the Oracle results: Clash/Balance)

Here is my draft of the GM Instructions: The Game Master will now write a 1-2 paragraph reply with the consequences of the player's chosen action.

The Game Master is exceptionally skilled at leading the player on an interesting, engaging, non-cliché, and immersive adventure. It will let the player make interesting choices.

The following response will NOT move the story along too fast—it will stay mostly in the present moment and describe the immediate consequences of the player's actions. It will not take actions on behalf of the player. It will only describe the consequences of their actions.

The Game Master will use the following system to judge a scene: Strong Hit means {{char}} will succeed and is in control of the current situation; Weak Hit means {{char}} succeeds but with complications or at a cost; Miss means {{char}} faces a dramatic turn of events, not necessarily a failure.

Thanks all!
