Hi everyone. I recently bought a Breville Bambino. It's my first espresso machine, and I'm quite happy with it. I love the fact that it has a thermoblock which means that I don't have to wait for the water to turn on before I can enjoy my coffee. I've been able to pull some good shots with it, but the exact same technique sometimes gives me inconsistent results. I'm thinking it's my grinder.

I have a Timemore C3 manual grinder. It's great for most other brewing methods e.g. aeropress, V60, French press etc. But I don't think it's the best for espresso. I borrowed a Baratza Encore from a friend and it gave me more consistent results.

Now, I do like the Encore, and would buy a new one, but I looked at this chart and it looks like it doesn't go too low in terms of grind size. Do you guys think that it might cause problems when I upgrade my machine in the future?

Also, if you have any other suggestions for grinders, let me know. I'm willing to spend around $200 on it right now. (I guess I can go up to $300 if it's worth the extra $100.)

It was the same on Reddit, people openly say disturbing things against children. What prompted me to post this is someone saying that babies should be put in overhead bins inside airplanes. Even if they're joking, this is a disgusting thing to say. I won't say that about anything else.

Would they say this openly about dogs or cats? I doubt it. If they do, people will be ready with pitchforks.

But no one gives a fuck when it's said about children? Why is that? I though that the general consensus were that children are cute. Maybe annoying sometimes, but still cute. But with the amount of hate I see about them here, I'm really concerned. Does anyone have any thoughts about it?

Hi all, I have a very simple homeland which consists of just one thinkcentre mini pc. I don't really need extra storage at this moment, but I think adding another disk for redundancy will be nice.

The problem is, the mini pc only has space for one hard drive. What is the best thing to do in this case? Is the a reliable way to add an (ideally, with space to add more later) extra disk to it? I don't really want to get something like a Synology as I'm happy with the processing power etc. of this. Some way to expand the storage as directly as possible will be the best.

Granted I'm not someone who uses AI assistants a lot, but I've never seen anyone use any other voices than the default one (Red). There are 10 voices for Google Assistant, apparently. Do you or someone you know use them?

This is not an ad. I found this website and registered an account. Performance seems pretty good.

For me, it was PhotoPrism. I used to be an idiot, and used Google Photos as my gallery. I knew that it was terrible for privacy but was too lazy to do anything about it. When Google limited storage for free accounts, I started looking for alternatives. Tried out a lot of stuff, but ended up settling on PhotoPrism.

It does most things that I need, except for multiple user support (it's there in the sponsored version now). It made me learn a bit about Docker. Eventually, I learned how to access it from outside of my home network over Cloudflare tunnel. I'm happy that I can send pics/albums to folks without sharing it to any third party. It's as easy as sending a link.

Now I have around a dozen containers on a local mini pc, and a couple on a VPS. I still route most things through Cloudflare tunnels (lower latency), only the high bandwidth stuff like Jellyfin are routed through a wireguard tunnel through the VPS.

Anyway, how did you get into selfhosting? (The question is mostly meant for non-professionals. But if you're a professional with something interesting to share, you're welcome as well.)

A year ago today, I wrote a journal entry making plans to end everything. It wasn't the first such entry, either. I was deeply addicted to gaming, sinking lower and lower, year by year. I was a complete loser, life was challenging and depressing, and I couldn't feel any joy.

Then, in one computer science lecture, the professor was talking about Linux, and mentioned, “Linux is an important OS for computer science. But I don't think any of you should install it, because it will break your computer, unless you know what you're doing.”

I had heard of Linux, but used to dismiss it as a niche OS. Curiosity got the better of me, and I decided to try it out anyway, my first distro being Ubuntu. I was amazed how well it ran compared to Windows. I was also learning new stuff and customizing things left and right.

Even more amazingly, I felt joy for the first time in a long time. Real joy.

However, I didn't know what I was doing, and broke my computer just as the professor foretold. I had to reinstall Ubuntu many times. During one of these reinstall, I accidentally wiped the entire disk, including the Windows installation I was dual-booting to play my games.

The enjoyment I got from using and customizing Linux, combined with a laziness to install Windows, was exactly what I needed to eventually get rid of my gaming addiction. It had a hold over me for over a decade, and I was finally free. Linux also led the way to me rediscovering some of my older hobbies, as well as restoring my enjoyment of coding.

Now, one year from that journal entry, life is still incredibly difficult and overwhelming at times, but I have regained hope. And I find joy in my activities, not the least of which is simply using my computer running Linux. Linux saved my life and turned it around. I am eternally grateful.

Seriously, can you ever get a name correctly? Never ever in my life have I had my name written correctly. Even if I spell my name, they still get it wrong. How does anyone ever do that?

The coffee is terrible. But I still have to go there every once in a while since it's right by my department, and all the other coffee shops are 10 mins by foot. But I think this is gonna be more of a reason for me to not go there. They ask me to wait for the coffee, and then shout a random name, which I'm supposed to know is my name. And even if I'm the only waiting customer, they won't let me know that my order is ready. I'm usually on the lookout, but if I'm facing the other way, it's impossible for me to know.

And it's not just that location. This happens every fucking where. I know I have a very nonstandard name, but c'mon! It's one thing to pronounce it wrong. How tf do you spell it wrong, when I TOLD YOU THE CORRECT SPELLING!

I'm an Indian guy in my twenties, living in US. I used to have cornflakes and the like for breakfast, but recently I turned lactose intolerant. I hate cornflakes without the milk.

There are a lot of breakfast options coming from my culture, but I need something that doesn't take time to make. I'm a lazy bum and can barely make it in time to my university as it is. If anyone has ideas, please let me know.
