[A day after mainland China invades Taiwan]

"Fuck, why did graphics cards quintuple in price?"

Does anybody know of a list of usb live-bootable distros, with links to the download pages?

I have a coworker who wants to switch his gaming computer over to Linux, he has Linux experience but from like a decade ago.

He's not partial to any particular distro, so I was hoping to just put together a multiboot flash drive with a bunch of live images he could try. But I'm not sure what I should include, and what has live images, vs. install only images.

I'm most comfortable in an environment with apt, so Debian and Mint are of course already covered, but if the gaming-specific distros have live usb images, that would probably be the best thing for him to try.

My first thought seeing the headline was "c/onion or c/nottheonion?

c/politics was not what I expected.

Or perhaps the 54 kg is an exaggeration and includes packaging and so on.

Bet $20 the 54 kg includes the weight of the cutting agents in stuff that was already cut to ~heroin strength

Well I use key-based login for security; obscurity just keeps the network congestion down

Both words share the Latin base for "to breathe", spirare, which is also where we get expire, aspire, conspire, and even spirit

And, presumably, 'respire'/'respiration'?

So, uh...link?

Solar panels are also added weight, which reduces range. Any way you look at it, it makes more sense to have the solar panels at a base location you go back to.

I guess an RV, or a camp trailer, makes sense to have panels on it, but that's about it

I imagine the problem was just as much older microwaves as it was older pacemakers

You can use any port for ssh. When I switched from 22 to 1337, brute force attempts at logging in stopped

On the other hand, my only remaining Windows machine routinely bluescreens with 0xDEADDEAD, which is never supposed to happen (it's a test code, for a deliberately initiated crash).

I think the last time I got a kernel panic on a Linux machine was 2011, and it was an mp3 player that was definitely not designed to run Linux.

Imprisoned for murder

Imprisoned for self defense while black.

It's a similar problem as driving while black, walking while black, etc...

If I'm injured and need a blood transfusion, where are paramedics most likely to go for the needle; is it the vein in my arm, same as for blood donation?

Wherever it is, if I get a tattoo noting my blood type, are you going to trust the tattoo and give me my blood type, or would you disregard it and go with O- just in case?

I'm getting some tattoo work done anyways, and I really like the idea of a Canadian Blood Services logo plus my blood type wherever paramedics would see it, but it's pointless if they won't believe it

When reading a web page within Connect, it would be nice if long-pressing on links in the webpage would give a popup with the option to open the link in an external browser (and probably also an option to just copy the link). I frequently find myself linked to Wikipedia from a Lemmy comment, and then want to open other links from that wiki page, so then I have to open the page I'm on externally and refind my spot in the article.

Having the same options when long-pressing a link in a comment/post would be nice as well.

Edit: there's already a setting for it, another user pointed it out. Ignore me :)

~~Currently, when you block an instance or community, it's blocked app-wide. I had blocked various NSFW communities and instances on my main account so that they don't show up in my All feed, but now I can't access them from my NSFW account unless I use a different app to do so, or repeatedly unblock and reblock them as needed.~~

~~Can we instead make block lists on a per-account basis (or have the option of account-associated or global blocking)?~~

The text when I try to type comments (but not the text in the search bar or, as I'm just now learning, here in the 'post body' text box) is white, and I can't find the setting to change it. Obviously I could change my background back to the default blue that it was, but that's the opposite of a solution.

Anybody know?
