Do you really think they lost over their stance on Israel/Palestina? Not saying it doesn't matter. But I feel if you see how many votes republicans got, that a lot of (perceived) domestic issues played a very big role.

Well,... Thanks for sharing anyway. Hopwe can still strive for minimizing warming, and not just give up and aim for 2' warming, instead of as close to 1.5' as possible.

Yup I feel the same way, like that was the moment he snapped or the crazy finally came out. Before I was a big fan, but it went downhill from there pretty fast. Though I've heard him on the Lex Friedman podcast like a year ago, and then he came across pretty sane - he just acts insane a lot of other times as well.

In a first, an American woman used a suicide pod to take her own life. The process took place in Switzerland. It's done by pumping in only nitrogen gas, so the person will lose goes dizzy, loses consciousness and eventually dies. Enter futurama memes.

It's just such a weird turn of events that the Saudies and Russians finance the platform that is touted as the true free speech platform (especially by republicans) - to further undermine the US and other democracies.

Thank you for saving me a search

I would like to add, that though we have the means to store the radioactive waste safely, it's not done properly in many places. So it's also an organizational challenge.

there are still some major challenges though. Not insurmountable, but challenges nonetheless. One of the most interesting I found is that you need to protect the meat from bacteria and fungi. A animal has an immune system (and a host of antibiotics pumped in to them). A piece of meat growing in vat hasn't. But it does have optimal conditions for growth of bacteria. So you need a clean lab environment. That's possible, but very hard to scale up.

I think the hype was there, but now is the moment the industry needs to mature and make it work in a way.

Alright I get your point.

Probably it will be chaos regardless, and coming out of that turmoil a form of socialism would be great. I don't think any of these fundamental transitions happen smoothly.

Another point just struck me about this piece. It talks about how these robots probably will be used for military purposes as well. That also means that every company with (let's say) a thousand or more bots will have asignificantl armed force on call. What will that mean for power dynamics within countries?

I don't think they are cowards, but in this piece indeed these implications don't come forward. In other articles and books they do talk about what the conditions should be for using the many transitions they talk about for good, or if those conditions aren't met, how they will not benefit most people. I think their work does capsulate well how these kind of transition will totally change current markets and partially economic systems, but how this exactly will play out is anybody's guess.
