Ray tracing actually will directly change the way games are made. A lot of time is spent by artists placing light sources and baking light maps to realistically light scenery - with ray tracing, you get that realism "for free".

DF did a really interesting video on the purely path traced version of Metro: Exodus and as part of that, the artists talked about how much easier and faster it was to build that version.

I think you just need to look at the PS5 Pro as proof that more GPU power doesn't translate linearly to better picture quality.

The PS5 Pro has a 67% beefier GPU than the standard PS5 - with a price to match - yet can anyone say the end result is 67% better? Is it even 10% better?

We've been hitting diminishing returns on raw rasterising for years now, a different approach is definitely needed.

Yup after first seeing this video we switched to powder - which was harder to find than I expected as everywhere sells tablets these days, but the difference was stark. My dishwasher doesn't even have a prewash compartment but I just sprinkle some powder in the door chamber and that works well enough.

Since this I rarely have any issues with dirty dishes. The only problem I have is occasionally glasses will get covered with baked on dirt particulate, but I'm assuming that's just my dishwasher being crap (I always clear out the filter between washes).

Conservatives will latch on to the Democratic donations and use it as "evidence' that the guy was 100% a democrat through and thought and that democrats are the only ones trying to assassinate their political opposition, I guarantee it.

They did exactly the same thing with the last attempt.

This is the way to do it - actual valid certs, with actual working TLS.

OP's issue is they don't understand how SSL works and fighting Firefox, which is actually trying to protect them and steer they e in the right direction.

I'm devastated that they're not working on a sequel at all, it was such a fun and refreshing game.

No, the adverts are the product.

This whole notion that nothing can be free needs to get in the bin.

Linux is free. Who's selling the user data for that?

Lemmy is free, who's the product there?

Yes, Facebook/Meta is a shady fucking company and they are indeed selling your data on top of the ads they sell, but don't lump everything free into the same bucket.

I love docker images, hate docker Inc.

Our 200 developers all switched from docker desktop to rancher after Docker tried to jack up the price about a year and a half ago, along with a bunch of legal threats. Their attitude was so piss poor, we went from debating paying the higher fees to just fucking them off entirely.

I will pay $4 per user to NOT use Docker.

All corporate social media accounts are trying to sell you stuff.

That whole sub works on cycles - news breaks, there's an immediate negative reaction towards trump and a couple of days later the sub finds some way to spin the whole thing.

It's fun watching them get told how to think in real time, though I'm not sure if it's done big conspiracy with some russian telling them how to think or just a collective coping mechanism.

If only there was a sink nearby so you could wash your hands immediately...

There was a competition for UK superfans last month. They said they'd let entrants know by June 29th so I just assumed I hadn't won anything. I'm so excited!
