Why are they focusing on privacy now though? It's always been private.

GNOME software center tells me this needs an update but it doesn't do anything when clicking download, how can I update this? in c/linux@programming.dev

The "right to preserve fertility" is kind of a weird and wrong reason here but the intention and the implementation are great so still good enough. Letting minors make decisions like that is crazy and stupid. I'd say the legal age of adulthood (18 in most countries) is not big enough nowadays for this particular kind of decisions but it's a completely different story.

I think it's because more cutting-edge options are not anywhere near as easy to set up and use.

I think Windows 10 going EOL is a good opportunity for Linux. People know how objectively bad Windows 11 is and how intrusive Microsoft ads can be.

I think it's just nice to be able to verify a file with a right click instead of opening the terminal and typing the *sum command. Yes, it is technically bloat, but also good for time saving.

What do you think about this? I'm personally against anything enabled by default, especially if it can cause slowdowns. However I understand the importance of backups so this change makes some sense.
