If the companies had to pay per bottle, do you really think they'd still be using single use packaging like that?

They'd install refill stations in stores and sell you a reusable bottle that you can fill up from their metered tap at the refill station.

Companies created the problem of single use packaging; the onus is not on individuals to solve a problem created by companies.

Students and workers from other countries with study and work permits are considered usual residents, according to StatsCan.

There are a lot of reasons to shit on the beef and dairy cartels in Canada, and they have definitely captured the market with regulation, but I don't believe this is an example of that. I think this is a good safety regulation that actually is in the interest of average Canadians for once.

Sure, but let's not pretend it's not an issue.

Wrong. It states directly in the article that students and foreign workers are not included in that metric.

but the reality is that virtually all homes in Canada have occupants.

Vancouver and Toronto are currently sitting about 7% and 7.4% homes that are empty or not for usual residents. That's a fucking massive number, imo.

Uh, what? Are you defending companies stealing gift card money from people because it's a "weird account on the books"?
