This needs to be in ratios VS cost of living values.

NY/LA VS Hayes Kansas, $100k is a very different thing.

Define "collapse"

Maybe go read their website.

Also, does RCS have encryption, cross-platform, yet, after 15 years of development?

Exactly, which is why your drives should be encrypted.

Once you lose physical control of a device, all bets are off, drive encryption at least slows down attackers significantly.

I have far more sensitive, and a greater volume of data, on the drive than just comms.

Last time I had seats redone it was about $600 for both front seats ($300 each), though I chose a slightly better material than basic. I got a discount because I took the seats out and dropped them off.

Was worth every penny. The new faux leather was far better than the original, but looked damn close, most people wouldn't even know (and it was tan, not black).

Find a local upholstery shop, doesn't cost anything to ask, and they'll fill you in on what's available these days.

At least the leather conditioner route is pretty cheap, just the cost of the conditioner and a day or two of letting it sit.

I dunno about 2 copies on one drive - they're both at risk of the same drive failing, etc.

Since my current data store isn't massive at the moment, if I have a fire (and I'm home), part of my plan is to grab my NAS on the way out.

But I still have off-site backup (and a local duplicate of my data).

"Back that far"??

When did you think mechanization started?

There are 5 I wouldn't call masterpieces.

Agreed on it all.

I think a big driver for cloud clients is bean counters - cloud is an expense, while having your own systems is capital investment.

They'd rather have the waste of leasing too much compute than have to pay taxes on systems plus the cost of staff to run it.

We won't really see this get addressed until companies have to truly own the risks they take on (see all the hacks that happen on a daily basis because CIO won't pay for the security that IT management is screaming to build). When fines for these breaches are meaningful, cloud will be less interesting.

Checks have been processed identically to debit cards since about 2008, with Check21, so this changes nothing.

I've been using a VMNO for 4 years now, never had an issue.

I used to be Verizon only because of travel for work, and I need it to "just work". I've found NVMO to be no different now.

It's possible in a specific area this could be the case though. Not all areas have the same coverage.
