I didn't get a chance to visit that brewery. In fact the only brewery I visited in Australia was the little creatures in Fremantle which was in a large building like a warehouse. Good beer, good food but not a place you go for some peace and quiet that's for sure.

I would need to see some peer reviewed study on it. You know the old saying. For every economist there exists an equal and opposite economist.

Is there any evidence that subsidies drive up prices? This seems like one of those economic deepity like "rising tide lifts all boats".

Who is the "we" you are talking about?

The point is that the word recession has a meaning, the meaning is accepted worldwide, and we are in one. I would also dispute that we are not experiencing the bad effects. The polls seem to indicate the public is feeling quite a bit of pain.

Why Brisbane? I was there once. It was hot and muggy and generally unpleasant. I don't remember having a great meal there, I don't remember seeing anything particularly spectacular. Just seemed like a hut and muggy city.

Melbourne OTOH was dynamic and fun and had spectacular food.

What's the difference between a technical recession or an actual recession. Words are supposed to have meanings and recession is a well defined term with globally accepted measurement metrics.

If we are technically in a recession it means we are in a recession.

The article says "will be unemployed" meaning they are going to get fired or laid off or whatever the term they are using these days.

Sounds like they expect it to peak at about 4.8% if my maths is right? Historically, that’s still pretty low.

I don't know. Usually mass layoffs have carry over to the rest of the economy. All the businesses serving those government employees are probably also going to downsize somewhat. Some may even go out of business who knows.

I get lost with the new benefits. Are the 187k people on Jobseeker not all considered “unemployed”?

Most likely not everybody who is unemployed is getting a benefit so the number unemployed should be higher than those seeking jobseeker benefits.

Even if we were to change our drug policies you can be sure you can be sure it won't be an overhaul but minuscule chipping away at the edges.

Despite our reputation to the contrary this country is way too conservative to overhaul our drug policies.

They aren't thinking about other people's toilet habits, they are thinking about other people's genitals.

I honestly don't know who is dumb enough to believe they are going to be moving crowds over the water at 250km/h. That's just bonkers. We can't move cars and trains that fast FFS.

A typical turbo prop will cruise at around 400 km/h

Well maybe the investors are dumb enough.

both the education and health systems are getting absolutely butchered by this government and this is definitely going to impact you and the people around you.

Who could have seen this coming!

Anybody who thinks the best way out of a recession is austerity measures needs to have their heads examined.

I am sure this will have no effect on healthcare delivery in the country right folks?

Another body blow to public services.

Austerity is going to hit hard.
