Whether it be electronics, automobiles or medical equipment, the manufacturers should not be able to horde “oem” parts, render your stuff useless if you repair it with aftermarket parts, or hide schematics of their products.

Let's hope they actually mean it. It could be cheaper than having different skews, but it's good news nevertheless.

They probably just mean they've worked out a loophole in the law which they're going to exploit the heck out of. I doubt they've changed their attitude on this overnight.

I bet it will not be Component level, but replacement parts, 3rd price of a new device.

You forgot that they also mean that they won't build 2 different versions of the devices. (It is not worth it)
