I'll admit it's really tempting, I've been annoyed by it too.
I'm inclined to avoid defederation at this point though and hold out for a fix. I'm not keen on fracturing our community if we don't absolutely need to.

So, Reddthat actually just disconnected the communities that were the most likely to be spammed, they are as follows:
I have actually also only seen spam from these sources so that might be an interim solution. I would also personally add [email protected] as well.
Report and block the offenders. I vote no to splitting federated groups unless inherently bad like Nazis etc...
It's just a temporary measure until they get their shit together, it's not like we're defederating forever.
I do block and report offenders but the main thing is that I shouldn't have to. This is a platform problem on kbin's end, and it shouldn't be up to .ca admins to clean up the shit of kbin itself.
It seems as soon as I block spammy kbin accounts it's just a matter of hours until the same spammers are spamming the same bullshit under a different similarly named account.
Do you not consider this to be a major problem, even if it's not political?
Totally do yes, but I wouldn't want people to get alienated who are a part of kbin but not a part of whatever that is. There will always be spam bots regardless. Report, block and move on is what I do
