My mother's computer is a 2012 Mac Mini. It has a 1TB system drive, which has about 100GB free. It has an 8TB storage drive connected to it (with photos, etc; it's got about 5TB free) and a 20TB Time Machine drive backing it all up.

We got a new M4 Mac Mini with a 512GB internal SSD, and a new 8TB external SSD for storage. Right on cue, the old Mac's system drive started showing signs of corruption. I'm hoping I can transfer the contents of the 8TB storage drive to the new 8TB external SSD, and then use an older Time Machine backup to put the Users folder from the old Mac on the 8TB external drive and run it from there.

Apparently this isn't a simple thing to do. Any tips?
