So recently there been a lot of conversations and threads about what the possible intent of NHI could be if they were behind the drone incursions.. I just so happened to be watching the Nightmare Before Christmas because it's just great... and as it turns out, a pretty analagous situation to our own. Here a basic rundown:

There's a place called Halloween Town. All the townsfolk think and act like regular people except their entire society, culture and understanding is based on Halloween. Also, they're all Halloween monsters.

Their leader, Jack, longs for something outside of these confines and searches for more. One day, he has a brush with sublime and is pulled in a new world. Christmas Town.

Jack's mind is blown at even the thought of a world outside of Halloween. No one is dead, snow, sweet smells, joy and cheer. He is completely amazed and wants to share this with his friends.

There is a specific scene that encapsulates where we are: The Town meeting.

Jack attempts to explain the concepts of Christmas to the townsfolk, but they can't understand why there isn't any horror. Treats without a trick? No matter how Jack tries to explain, they don't get it. Eventually he just explains it in a Halloween way.

This film is very interesting because we, an outside observer, fully understand both Christmas and Halloween and the humor lies in the characters inability to grasp concepts outside of their worldviews.

We don't understand why NHI can be here and not want us dead, or we apply our own concepts of religion. We apply to them the concepts of power we're familiar with as humans. We make them gods or conquerors.

You could even take it further and apply Jack's research and eventual bastardization of Christmas to reflect the USA's crash retrieval and reverse engineering programs.

I think it important not make assumptions about what little is known about the Phenomenon. Our focus should be solely on expanding our understanding and collaborating to see a clearer picture. The difference is, our government won't tell us what they know. At least Jack told his people.

We should find out what is known before we make any further assumptions. Arguing here won't get us closer to the truth.

Merry Christmas! (I was busy yesterday..)
