It happened 10 years ago during my very first surgical procedure.
I was very anxious about being put under general anesthesia, but when the time came, I convinced myself to relax and embrace every sensation I could feel.
I closed my eyes, and then I started to feel myself drifting away. I said out loud « It’s starting » and I remember the nurse replying « It’s starting ? ».
From that moment, something very strange happened.
The voices and sounds around me started speeding up, faster and faster, it was exponential. The voices also became increasingly high-pitched, almost like chipmunk voices, if you need a point of comparison.
I remember thinking « Does time speed up when you’re under general anesthesia ? » Then I opened my eyes, and the surgery was over. I was convinced I was still in the operating room and still in the process of falling asleep, but no.
I didn’t feel time passing, it was as if I had simply blinked.
I still have no explanation for this. Since then, I’ve undergone other surgeries, but nothing like this has ever happened again.
Has anyone else experienced something similar ?
