I'm glad people are doing this. Imagine how much the place would be improved if it wasn't illegal.
I hope that we get wolves back in my lifetime.

Our winter banner is a shot of Shotley marshes, Suffolk by GreyShuck.

What worries me about these reintroductions.
Is how little they discuss why the originals went extinct in the UK.
Most assume it was mankind. And that was def an important part.
But the more direct reason was the removal of dogger bank. IE the land link to Europe. This left many species isolated. And over time, the lack of genetic diversity lead some creatures to die out.
We still have mankind. More to the point, we are now much more likely to effect these animals' ability to travel between communities and mix genetics.
Reintroducing these animals is pointless unless we also ensure the population is monitored and new ones reintroduced as needed.
Honestly had no idea Britain had beavers. Looks like NA beaver has 8 less chromosomes than the Eurasian varieties, I wonder how different the might look or act.
Beavers were native, but were wiped out around 400 years back in the UK. They have only been brought back at all in the last couple of decades really.
Different numbers of chromosomes, but one of the notable points about both species is that their appearance and behaviour is VERY similar. No matter where they are, they have a niche and they are phenotypically very well fitted to it.
Nice beaver.
Ohhh, let's do wolves next!
