My goal is just to have a community where people can go and see what new game news is out for the day and comment on it.

Heck yeah, new steam controller and steam OS on more devices! Excited to see what happens with this. Well....as long as it's not like last time but I don't think it will be.
Well yeah, because this time they have a ton of games and their own hardware. They've proven the concept, and the fact that more expensive and devices w/ less user-friendly software are selling shows that there's a market here.
So all a competitor would need to do is build the hardware, Valve does all the rest.
If some day they eat a big part of windows market shares I would not be surprise
It almost certainly won't be like last time considering how far Proton has come and given the popularity of the Steam Deck. I imagine that a Mini PC home console with Steam OS from Valve would do the PC gaming market a lot of good since it would act as a stable piece of hardware for Devs to target and optimize for. Since as it currently is, PC gaming hardware evolves and progresses way too fast.
Completely agree. I'm very excited for the new era of Valve hardware and Linux support. Especially now that they are selling their hardware officially where I live.
I think it would be interesting if they did a home version of the Steam Deck basically. Do a valve branded stripped down gaming PC on/around the same level as ps5 and series X using this OS to give a “console feel” to PC gaming while keeping the PC modularity and ecosystem for people who are interested in PC but don’t know what specs to look for and where to start, or those that want to get back into it after a long time as well as those interested in Linux. It would have the added benefit of not requiring kbm, windows purchase, and mostly free online play. Maybe that wouldn’t work but it’s just a thought

Yeah I do remember those things, it was a cool idea, slightly janky at the time and their expectation for others to develop games natively for linux was a bit too bold, but it was very good for what it was. I will say that what we have with the Steam Deck and even unofficial Steam OS is way better in every way imaginable though. I imagine if Valve released Steam Consoles now, they'd be a smash hit, because as it is, there isn't very much out there for people who are looking to get into PC gaming on a budget, and Living room gaming on PC is fiddly and clunky. SteamOS and Steam machines solve both of those problems.

All these articles about it coming to the public like it's not been available to the public since Steam Machines were a thing confuse me. Did they forget?
