Discussion of climate, how it is changing, activism around that, the politics, and the energy systems change we need in order to stabilize things.

As a starting point, the burning of fossil fuels, and to a lesser extent deforestation and release of methane are responsible for the warming in recent decades: Graph of temperature as observed with significant warming, and simulated without added greenhouse gases and other anthropogentic changes, which shows no significant warming

How much each change to the atmosphere has warmed the world: IPCC AR6 Figure 2 - Thee bar charts: first chart: how much each gas has warmed the world. About 1C of total warming. Second chart: about 1.5C of total warming from well-mixed greenhouse gases, offset by 0.4C of cooling from aerosols and negligible influence from changes to solar output, volcanoes, and internal variability. Third chart: about 1.25C of warming from CO2, 0.5C from methane, and a bunch more in small quantities from other gases. About 0.5C of cooling with large error bars from SO2.

Recommended actions to cut greenhouse gas emissions in the near future:

Some in the US are reconsidering children, with fears over reproductive healthcare and the climate crisis front of mind

As someone who has a family, its probably not safe to have girls in a red state.

[–] curbstickle@lemmy.dbzer0.com 17 points 2 weeks ago

Soon, maybe not blue states either.

Just hire private security guards for them. Oh, you aren’t a billionaire? Never mind…

But see, according to my awful family in Oklahoma, they voted for Trump specifically to keep their daughters safe from all the pedophile trans people who are raiding the bathrooms of their grade school like orcs sieging Helm's Deep. Sure, their daughters now have no reproductive rights and they've never seen or met a single trans person, but this was definitely the best decision to keep them safe and healthy.

Its literally the conservative social media capture. Was fixing some dude's computer today and shit like what you're saying was bursting out of his phones "its a slippery slope, next it will be pedophiles are okay and they are all actually blah blah blah blah......" How many trans people you know? I've been around and only met 3 that I know by name. They don't have the numbers to seige shit and they aren't a homogeneous group. Its fucken weaponized ignorance.

Depends on how far away the civil war is.

Isn't there a big union that aligned it's general meeting with something... I forget what year that's set to happen. Supposed to open the possibility of a massive general strike.

2028, just in case Trump doesn't leave office:

There won’t be a 2028 if Project 2025 works out. Between the concentration camps, the civil war, the mass exodus of skilled labor, and the absolutely crippled economy, there won’t be anyone left to strike.

Harris lost the election, you an stop pretending trump magically became the world's most intelligent and competent person.

[–] intresteph@discuss.online 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

It doesn’t take a smart person. It takes a willing one.

[–] theonlytruescotsman@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Nah takes a pretty smart person to completely unilaterally change the constitution while suppressing the majority of states and people.

[–] intresteph@discuss.online 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

No, it takes a team of people to pay smart people to create plans of actions. Trump is a puppet. And if you think the constitution is gonna mean anything, you’re funny.

[–] theonlytruescotsman@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Again you're making your enemy out to be infinitely strong and smart. The election is over, using that fascist propaganda tactic is pointless. Trump et al will be yet another neoliberal presidency. Like the last time.

Sounds like you voted for the guy

I'm not the one thinking he's an all powerful patriarch of a global conspiracy that would require pretty much all members to be hyper competent if not hyper intelligent super humans to accomplish.

[–] intresteph@discuss.online 0 points 1 week ago (1 children)

lol. I’m not the one who thinks it takes intelligence to fuck shit up.

Go back to Reddit, maga.

So project 2025 isn't a threat, good of you to finally agree.

Anyway see you in four years when you're going to pretend the CEO of UHC has to be elected because hes not a Republican and Republican with their plan 2029 will destroy America.

Perhaps if you had a better education you would have better comprehension skills. I hope your healthcare is denied. Goodbye

May 2028 is before Trump is expected to leave office anyway. That would be Jan 2029. Thanks for linking though, more unions and more union collaboration is critical.

I've been reading reports of mothers being turned away from post-natal and miscarriage care lately

So no, it doesn't seem to be safe right now. And that's just for mom, never mind the world you're bringing a child into

I'm so glad I got sterilized right after the Roe v Wade leak. Screw being pregnant or even sexually active with such high stakes. Even with birth control AND Condoms, I was scared. If I change my mind, it looks like I'll have plenty of orphans to choose from...
