Hey everyone,

I need some advice on expanding my storage setup. Here’s my current situation:

  • Laptop with 237 GB internal storage (completely full)
  • Two 2TB external drives (one SSD, one HDD), both are pretty full, the later is very old and should die soon.

I’m looking to add 10TB to 20TB of storage. I can’t build a desktop, so I need something that works externally and plugs into my laptop via USB. I’d prefer an HDD since I’m aiming for high capacity/price efficiency, but I want to make sure I get the right case to go with it that can power the drive(s) properly and keep them healthy. I would like for the drive(s) to be future-proof and compatible with a future NAS network that I plan on building later on.

My plan: I’m thinking of purchasing two 10TB+ internal HDDs (one for primary use, the other for backup) and an enclosed case that can power one drive sufficiently via USB.

I’d like to know:

  • What are some good 10TB-20TB HDDs, ideally sold by two?
  • What's a reliable external enclosure that supports USB and provides sufficient power for the drives?
  • Any brands or models to look for?

Thank you
