  1. Post only links to articles, Title must fairly describe link contents. If your title differs from the site’s, it should only be to add context or be more descriptive. Do not post entire articles in the body or in the comments.

Links must be to the original source, not an aggregator like Google Amp, MSN, or Yahoo.

Example:

  1. Articles must be relevant to politics. Links must be to quality and original content. Articles should be worth reading. Clickbait, stub articles, and rehosted or stolen content are not allowed. Check your source for Reliability and Bias here.
  2. Be civil, No violations of TOS. It’s OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It’s NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.
  3. No memes, trolling, or low-effort comments. Reposts, misinformation, off-topic, trolling, or offensive. Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
  4. Vote based on comment quality, not agreement. This community aims to foster discussion; please reward people for putting effort into articulating their viewpoint, even if you disagree with it.
  5. No hate speech, slurs, celebrating death, advocating violence, or abusive language. This will result in a ban. Usernames containing racist, or inappropriate slurs will be banned without warning

We ask that the users report any comment or post that violate the rules, to use critical thinking when reading, posting or commenting. Users that post off-topic spam, advocate violence, have multiple comments or posts removed, weaponize reports or violate the code of conduct will be banned.

All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

That's all the rules!

Yay, tariff wars, every one wins when there are wars, always

Gotta say, based on everything I see around me these days, as a group, Americans seem dumber than average.

[–] Quill7513@slrpnk.net 10 points 3 weeks ago

reagan gutted our education system, then bush ii broke it, then trump set it on fire.

expect us to get even dumber

So much so that one could argue the GOP platform relies on ignorance. It is the only way to get people to consistently vote against their own best interests.

America just elected someone who tried to coup them. It's fucking insane.

A relatively very small amount of people

85% of U.S. electricity imports are from Canada

We could just flick the switch on and off a few times. Seems to work on toddlers.

[–] itsprobablyfine@sh.itjust.works 3 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

This one doesn't make any sense to me. Of course all of our electricity imports come from Canada, I suspect the other 15% is mexico cause I don't know who else we even can import from. That said, probably most of these 'imports' are more like trades in that sometimes the nearest grid is across the border. I don't think Canada is sending bulk power to the US consistently (maybe on certain days depending on hydro and renewables) and doubt a tarriff here would be nearly as big an impact as something like steel. I could be wrong though

[–] SGforce@lemmy.ca 2 points 3 weeks ago

Thought I heard it was the hydro plants and therefore mostly New York and Michigan rather than small bits here and there.. Don't think they can be just turned off either.

[–] Pantsofmagic@lemmy.world 2 points 3 weeks ago

This will mostly hurt blue states so he doesn't give a shit

[–] Darkassassin07@lemmy.ca 1 points 3 weeks ago

Lmao, I hope he's stupid enough to tarrif that too. Just go ahead and double the cost of living, that'll go well...

[–] skozzii@lemmy.ca 3 points 3 weeks ago

Let's scrap any BYD tarrifs, 20k electric vehicles for everyone is a big win and it should teach Trump/Musk a lesson.

they really said OH YEAH? WELL WE CAN CHARGE OUR OWN CITIZENS MORE THAN YOU CHARGE YOUR OWN!!!!!!!1!1!1!1!1!!!!!

Refusing to respond to tariffs is a terrible international strategy. It leads to your export sector being unable to compete.
