My dad is hardcore conservative, identifies as independent. My mom was Democratic, she's now hardcore Republican to reflect the political views of her 4th husband.

I want so badly to just not see any family for Thanksgiving because their political views are so dramatically opposed to mine, but that just doesn't feel right in my heart.

Everyone I love supports things I'm ethically and morally against, but shit dude, my circle of people is already so small. I want to have family and friends in my life, but I also want to surround myself with people who share my values. Unfortunately I have to choose one over the other, and that feels dirty.

Going no contact or limited contact is a personal decision everyone has to decide for themselves. I'm lucky enough to have boomer parents who aren't hateful/gullible conservatives.

Visceral proof that conservatism is a legitimate mental disorder. Good on the kids, they’ll very likely have the outstanding thanksgiving they deserve.

If liberalism is a mental disorder than neoliberalism is a new mental disorder that is so bizarre it doesn't even have a definition yet.

God I kind of wish my parents would vote for Trump so I could avoid Thanksgiving and take the days off to get other shit done.

Isn't that Grant from ACW? Not american, but how does that work with a union general and MAGA?

[–] Madison420@lemmy.world 7 points 3 weeks ago

They're convinced the party flip never happened and their race based white Christian nationalist bullshit is "patriotic".

[–] PugJesus@lemmy.world 7 points 3 weeks ago

Grant, who put in more effort than any other president would for the next 70 years to create a more racially equal government, appointing numerous minorities into government positions and advocating for a purely secular school system, free of Christianity or any other religion.

He'd be decried as a woke DEI liberal globalist if conservatives actually knew anything about the past.

Maybe the part about telling children they have a mental disorder is why they’re upset…

[–] Breve@pawb.social 7 points 3 weeks ago

If your children are going to disown you over who you voted for, then don't tell them who you voted for! Family harmony restored, simple as that!

But no, they need that persecution complex to solidify the false reality they've built in their minds.
