Oops, this is some misinformation, friend. https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/rfk-wellness-farms/

Exaggerated claims designed to provoke a reaction, even in humorous contexts like this, make it harder for us to perceive and react to actual dangerous threats that might come our way. And we're definitely going to need to have an accurate and truthful view of the world in the coming days.

It's a good joke, it's a great joke even, but even so, we shouldn't spread misinformation.

I was posting more for the funny reply, rather than to share the original article, but I can put a note in the post body that the pictured quoted article is misinformation.

If trans people and Adderall people are outlawed then there will be no tech industry left.

[–] SaharaMaleikuhm@feddit.org 12 points 3 weeks ago (4 children)

You are forgetting about the furries.

Nah, I think we're included by virtue of overlapping Venn diagrams.

Are there any cis furries in tech that aren’t on amphetamines?

The ones that are were probably all grabbed up by the US Navy to work on the Nuclear Submarines.

On the farms, he said, residents would grow their own organic food—which would help them recover from addiction,

These people are going to starve to death. It's difficult enough to farm when you want to farm.

Not exactly. My ADHD has only one good use... I am amazing at dealing with worst case scenarios and in fact thrive in them. I will always find a way to do something, survive and enjoy it. I had more fun in Japan when I was broke after I lost my scholarship than I was before I did. I rode a busted old bike with flat tires everywhere, I found ways to scrounge for food, I survived odd of a bag of flour and snuck my mom into my dorm. I have no interest in normal day to day easy life. Put me in the wilderness and make me kill my food.

As a person with ADHD, let me just volunteer the following information; the absolute last thing you want... the last thing you want is for a bunch of people with ADHD to be held on a boring farm. Without medication!

The phrase "herding cats" doesn't even come close. And ADHD is often comorbid with sleep phase disorder, which means I'm 100% alert all night without the medication that helps me sleep! That gives me lots and lots of time to be a problem!

[–] Kolanaki@yiffit.net 11 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

Idk... I feel like we'd really want to revolt, but would keep procrastinating.

[–] cheers_queers@lemm.ee 7 points 3 weeks ago

there's nothing more productive than a group of ADHD people working together for something they want lol

They missed it because they were already taking liberties on what was actually said.

To be clear, I wouldn't put it past him to do that, but that isn't actually what he said.

[–] dullbananas@lemmy.ca 20 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

TL;DR: voluntary "rehabilitation wellness farms"

[–] rumba@lemmy.zip 8 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Yeah sorry should have been more clear I suppose. The narrative they're trying to perpetuate is that nobody is ill and all of the prescription drugs are unnecessary, and that all the people taking medication for their illnesses really just want to be off of it but have no ability.

Realistically, yeah he's going to build the camps, and then it's a very short hop skip and a jump to court orders putting people there.

To be honest they should just do an opinion piece saying exactly what we know he's going to do. We don't need him to pretend that's exactly what he said.

This is a pretty cool example of media bias distorting facts in order to cause kind of a Shiri's Scissor scenario in the reader based on where they get their news. Liberal source gives an inaccurate, more interpretive story based on what is already known about the parties involved. I'd wager a more conservative source would just give a direct statement of what RFK said here, which sounds fairly reasonable if you have no bias against the man and his team. Discussing this point becomes incredibly controversial between the groups because we have opposing interpretations of the same event, and it's difficult to come to any understanding without breaking many things down into smaller parts.

All this is to say I agree, it should have been an opinion piece. It's dishonest as it is now and would only cause friction, confusion, and raised hackles. We know how troubled teen camps fail kids, and what happens when bad people have power over vulnerable people. The writing is on the wall, but it's not clear for all of us. Be less inflammatory and more informative, is what I think news should be.

Once the farms are built I wonder how long they'll stay voluntary. He's taking baby steps to a massive slave labor industry

[–] glitchdx@lemmy.world 6 points 3 weeks ago

Man who frequently lies is misquoted in a way that is more in line with what he probably meant based on previous statements and actions.

I'm not surprised.

He’s in the closet about his own mental health issues, one of which is likely him being ADHD AF.

So like the closeted gay politicians being the harshest proponents of things like conversion therapies, anti-lgbtq views and legislation, the closeted mental-health-problem asshole is anti-actual-medical-treatment of everything, like anti-vax, anti-adderall, etc.
