I have recently had my home rewired, which included running ethernet to several rooms, and running cables for PoE IP cameras. Currently only a small number of rooms are connected to the router due to a lack of ports. I have not yet purchased any IP cameras. I want to buy a network switch to allow me to connect more of the rooms up now, but I would like it to work for my plans for the cameras in the future.

I want the cameras to be unable to access the internet, to reduce any risk of randomers being able to view their feeds. I want other devices at home to be able to access the internet, and view the camera feeds.

I believe I can achieve this by creating a separate VLAN for the cameras. My understanding is I need to get a managed network switch to be able to set up a VLAN. I have read online that I might also need a router which is compatible with VLANs, but some sources seem to indicate that is only necessary if you want the VLAN to have internet access.

Can I achieve my goals with just a managed network switch, even though my router does not support VLANs?

Is there a simpler setup for me to achieve these goals?
