I want to connect my private phone to Wifi at work. There's a guest Wifi that I'd like to use to save mobile data. However, I just can't connect. I know that the Wifi is restricted (e.g. can't access the Mullvad website) but I was hoping that with the new Shadowsocks feature I would be able to connect to the VPN on my phone.
My settings:
* Auto-connect "on"
* Lockdown mode (block connections without VPN) "off"
* Local network sharing "on" (need it for a few apps like Localsend)
* DNS content blockers and custom DNS sever both "off", BUT I have base.dns.mullvad.net set as Private DNS in the Android settings. (Reason: if I do it in the app, a bunch of websites stop loading, giving me DNS errors for some reason. Either way, there are no DNS leaks shown and the Private DNS method lets me load all websites.)
* DAITA "off"
* Wireguard port "automatic"
* Wireguard obfuscation "automatic"
* Quantum-resistant tunnel "automatic"
* Wireguard MTU "default"
When I connect to the Wifi, I first get the error that the Private DNS can't connect. If I turn Private DNS off in the Android settings, I still can't connect in the Mullvad app. It just keeps trying to connect forever (while blocking the Internet).
I also tried setting obfuscation to Shadowsocks with an "automatic" port, but it didn't help either.
Any tips? I can't imagine that the firewall is clever enough to detect Shadowsocks, isn't that quite hard to do?
