5 YOE. Not looking, but also getting no real interest. Also haven't updated my linkedin in a good while.

Any other experiences?

Says who? I've been looking and applying like crazy and I've gotten nothing.

Community sidebar says this is only for Canada, but since I'm seeing some USA comments, I'll throe mine in.

In the New England region, and was laid off with a bunch of others in February. It's a dead zone out there. I'm Senior software engineer, but just put out the word to my head hunters that I will take entry level contracts.

I'm going to have to find some work in some other career path, or I will start draining my retirement just to make rent. I can't even move to a cheeper town since I need income for anyone to be willing to lease me an apartment.

There is a glimmer of hope though, since I'm setting more activity and I do have an interview coming up. The last four or five I've had since February ended up with me being ghosted, so I have to assume interviews won't get me anywhere.

The worst part is knowing that most of the jobs listed don't really exist. They are just farming resumes. Several positions from march are still up in the form of reposts.

That sounds brutal man; do you mind if I ask what stack/language? What kind of company were you at before?

We’ve been hiring (for real) but only for more senior positions. Fintech.

Have you tried contracting? Especially if you’re asking them to consider you for junior level positions, that might be a good bridge into something more long term; keep the lights on and let you keep searching and in the meantime some company gets an amazing deal on your talent.

I don't want to give out too much personally identifiable info, so just the basics....

I have 30 years behind me. Was a Java dev in the early days, then fell into .NET, hated it for a while (few people cared about design patterns, testing, etc) lots of JS, SQL Server, Oracle DB, cloud, devops, etc..

I was at a security and automation company, was doing well, but got pissant raises. My boss was as surprised as i was at my layoff.

I am perhaps too senior. I am actually interviewing at a fintech, wouldn't that be funny!

I've heard certain European countries are on the upswing towards tech sector recovery but I'm not seeing it in the USA yet. I'm not familiar with other geos.

2+ YOE as DevOps, looking for Software Dev and DevOps-y roles since, say, February.

Not really looking, per se, but was listening and responding to head hunters and treating it as a learning experience and maybe some leverage to get a pay bump - I’m classed as a junior but run rings around the mid-career and seniors we’ve hired recently, who all make more than me.

Anyway, I had a ton of interviews (probably 15 or so), several next rounds (maybe 5?), but no actual offers and nothing that would make me move through about May, and then….everything just went radio silent.

I almost posted this week to ask if I was doing something wrong or the market was that hard right now.

Our midwest company just lost three large clients in one month and had to lay 10% of our workforce off, so we're not on the upswing yet.
