#ClassicsTober24 Day 8: Boudicca. Her role in resisting the Romans lives on in memory thanks to the extant writings of Tacitus and Dio Cassius.

Boudicca and the Iceni remind us of the importance of defending your home and loved ones from those who would invade and oppress you.

@[email protected] It’s funny that I had to learn a new name for Boudicca, all because the experts apparently can’t read medieval handwriting any better than anyone else.

@[email protected] there appears to be highly contested options for spelling and when you learn it was unlikely her name but possibly a honorific instead 🤯

It also bears remembering that Boudica’s rebellion also involved the mass slaughter of probably around 70,000 people. Not in battle, but in purposeful raids on unarmed civilians in Colchester and London as revenge for the Roman occupation.

@[email protected] it’s always a bit tricky to be certain about numbers when it comes to the ancient world, but a sizeable resistance makes sense to be worthy of being written in Roman sources, for sure.
