I think reposts from reddit could be really beneficial for lemmy , cause part what made reddit great was that it was basically a content libary, that had the answers to a lot of questions and in turn drove people to the side. On lemmy we still have to build that libary

I agree. Imo a lot of the hate for reddit reposts is because repost bots are either posting content too quickly or pulling from new instead of top. Lemmy's not ready for an influx of bad content, so you gotta curate it.

I've slowly been rebuilding https://lemmy.ml/c/dccomics at 1-2 posts a day. That way there's always something in top/day but it won't flood a user's feed. I'm also not reposting top/day from reddit in case there's users that still use both.

It helps when you realize that a vast majority of Reddit's content was already reposted from somewhere else.

Good catch! This is something I've never seen the"reddit report" complainers process adequately or offer a counterpoint to.

I'm also doing this. You have to think differently.

Firstly, reposting from anywhere is actually absolutely no problem at all. You are doing a very valuable service, which is curation. Yeah, people could be going to reddit or wherever directly. But do you post everything from reddit/wherever? Of course not, because a bunch of it is shit. Shit no one else will have to wade through because of you.

In addition, you're essentially reducing reddits user count. The people that follow your small community here don't have to be on reddit anymore.

Secondly, not coming up with stuff yourself is completely normal. Who even does that, really? We're mostly all just rehashing things we saw somewhere else, combining them into something "new". I'm pretty bad at coming up with stuff myself. But that's just... Not important. My worth as a person isn't defined by what I create, so if I don't create anything, nothing bad happens. If I actually do create something, nice, if not, also nice.

you could be active and encouraging other people with making good comments

I might have been part of the problem on Reddit, just scrolling day after day letting everyone do the work. Can't do that here....and I don't mind being the ahole who steals it anymore. We can build this better, but it'll take some time and effort. (and a alot of shit posting)

People posted stuff publicly on purpose, you posting it somewhere else doesn't make you an asshole. You're only an asshole if you knowingly strip attribution.

I am trying to build a (relatively fringe) community but I feel bad about reposting stuff, so I don't. On the other hand it's really hard making up new memes all the time and I end up trashing most ideas because they just feel very forced.

This is exactly where I'm struggling too. I recently got really into Planet Zoo and love seeing other people's creations. But Reddit is a pain to go to, and the official forums are just people endlessly listing different animals, they're completely pointless. So I want to make a Planet Zoo community here, but I'm also horrible at making stuff. So I try to find other people's creations but Reddit is a pain to go to....and it's just an endless cycle.

Different perspective: "I am the content!"

"I'm not stuck in here with you, you're stuck in here with me(mes)!"

Easy: repost

Think of all the upvotes you're getting! Maybe somewhere in the future you can cash those in for real money

but would reddit crypto not be way more practical :p
