Disclaimer, not in SF proper but down the peninsula. Hubby is descended from Norwegians and overheats super easily so absolutely. Meanwhile I’m always in a sweater when I’m inside.

That's lucky. I would like to live on the first floor because the heat rises into my unit from the lower unit, and also I wouldn't have to carry my bicycle upstairs.

The quote is correct about our summers. Early autumn is our warmest time of year.

Many of us don't have AC, and the old homes retain so much heat.

Yeah, I worked in SF for about a year, though I was too poor to actually live there. BART was my best bud.
