Note that

  • Permission was attained from contributors, and
  • Forks prior to this change are still under GPL naturally.

So what's the controversy, really?

I don't really see why getting attribution for a free project is so important to some people but if that's what they want over people "stealing" their work (which will happen anyway) so be it.

Seems like this only applies from this month onward, I would think a fork will happen sooner or later using the current/two weeks ago source that was still GPL.

No derivatives for a PS1 emulator? That's not sounding like helping PS1 emulation progress as time goes on. You got to go through the "official" channel for that from Duckstation. I'm sure that's gonna go over well with the emulation audience.

Also keep in mind the PS1 was new in the specific year of 1995. in another perspective 2015 was 9 years ago by 2025 it would be 10 whole years. 2005 would be 20 years. so that's right the ps1 is almost 30 years old. Not to mention Duckstation is very similar to other PS1 emulators in terms of features, why are they doing this?
