So today I watched probably about 5 hours of youtube content and I think I only ran into about 2 ads during the entire experience I really don't experience that many ads on youtube anymore and I have turned off my ad blockers and such explicitly for Youtube since I wanted to give at least a little bit of ad revenue to the content creators that I watched at the time that I turned it off. Yet I continuously hear that people have been having problems with too many ads and that ads are ruining the experience on youtube. How many ads do people who watch without ad blocker get on a video such that it's seemingly ruining the experience?

There is a series my kid likes. I am not exaggerating when I say there is an ad after every two minutes, maybe even more frequently than that.

Not only that, but I have seen ads that show up that have a time as long as 45 minutes!

My head hangs low and I feel ashamed when I say I purchased Premium. They got me. I never would have if it weren’t for my kids.

I got those uunskippable 45 minute ads during the 2019 federal election but I haven't gotten any of those ones since then. That definitely made me turn on an ad blocker till the elections ended.

Why would you turn off an adblocker?

I always have UBlockOrigin active (to the point I even forget I'm running it) and a couple days ago I got my first YouTube ad in a pretty long time. Even then, it was all skippable stuff every 2-3 videos in a music playlist, so nothing to complain about really.

What I can't stand is when they appear mid video interrupting an interesting sequence. That's awful "greed before UX" design.

I'm even worse. I just pay for YouTube Premium. It's pretty worth. I get a full music streaming service and no ads for $13. It's actually such a good deal, that I'm judging whether or not to permanently drop Spotify.

I still get ads like I have a small square off to the side of the video but I don't get very many ads in my videos and I don't understand why. I have ad block plus (Ignore Youtube), popup blocker for chrome (Ignore Youtube) and UBlock Origin (Ignore Youtube) so I'm honestly confused by it.

what's with all the (ignore youtube) in the titles?

Sounds like that might be a hint as to why you get ads on youtube.

I know I get ads on youtube (my adblockers are set up so that I do), it's that I don't get many ads on youtube for some reason.
