A "Showerthought" is a simple term used to describe the thoughts that pop into your head while you're doing everyday things like taking a shower, driving, or just daydreaming. The best ones are thoughts that many people can relate to and they find something funny or interesting in regular stuff.

Rules

  1. All posts must be showerthoughts
  2. The entire showerthought must be in the title
  3. Avoid politics (NEW RULE as of 5 Nov 2024, trying it out)
  4. Posts must be original/unique
  5. Adhere to Lemmy's Code of Conduct

we only get firmware corruption as we age

You actually have to work on yourself to get those upgrades. Takes a bit of effort but can be done.

Sadly they don't teach people anything about how to handle their emotions in school, so people never even attempt to get some skills in that area.

If you don't know how to master your emotions, you will never become a jedi.

I'd be Windows. Constantly rebooting every five minutes

That was just an inconvenient update that happened at the wrong time. Like when your laptop decides to update during a critical PowerPoint presentation at a business meeting.

You likely do it daily already.

funny idea but this is where transhumanism starts

No, you actually say you want to solve your problems without any work from your part, sorry no can do.

Even for a firmware update somebody has to code and work in the background, only the update process itself it's simpler (if you don't consider the work involved in creating the update mechanism and infrastructure itself).

You can. I go on a 2 week Mahasi vipassana silent meditation retreat each year and each time the release notes make it worth the time and effort. Also like running defrag on a disk that has been defragged regurlarly, it runs smoother each time, making the whole experience much more pleasurable.

Release notes last retreat:

  • Fixed approval seeking issue due to lack of approval by clueless dad during teenage years
  • Reduced day dreaming by 10% by recognizing mechanisms that lead to day dreaming
  • Optimized routines for dealing with tough situations
  • Increased mindfulness by eliminating several mechanisms that lead to mindlesness
  • Discovered access to high concentration states that likely will lead to more discoveries
  • Fixed loneliness issue due to missed update
  • Fixed part of a (self and others) judgement issue. More work on this issue needed.

The above is a pretty accurate representation of the results I got.

essentially that is what mythology has been for humanity. Too bad now we just let advertising borrow the techniques without education the population how it works.
