Come to Quark’s, Quark’s is Fun!

General off-topic chat for the crew of startrek.website. Trek-adjacent discussions, other sci-fi television, navigating the Fediverse, server meta (within reason), selling expired cases of Yamok sauce, it’s all fair game.

I’ve thought it would be nice to have a venue to discuss Trek comics, but I’ve always felt it would be weird to reference non-canon/dubiously canon stuff from a less popular medium in a main Star Trek thread.

Thus, I was wondering if this server has sufficient interest in such a thing to create a new community just for Star Trek comics.

We ran a regular comics discussion for a while, but there wasn't a lot of engagement at the time.

My personal feeling is that I'd like to see more comics and Treklit discussion on c/startrek before splintering anything off into its own community, but I'm also very interested to hear what others think!

An added benefit of posting comics stuff to c/startrek is that those posts automatically receive a #startrek hashtag on Mastodon (some restrictions apply), so there's a higher chance to get engagement from that platform.

If there's enough interest, I'm fully willing to start putting up the comics discussion posts again. The issue initially was I was almost always the only one sharing my thoughts about the books.

Maybe there could be a way to reach our label "Memory Beta"-belonging posts?

I think I agree with this, just in case someone wanted to discuss a novel as well.

I don't know when it will actually be released, but I think the Lemmy devs are actively working on a post-tagging system. Once it's in place, we will probably figure out how it might best be used in our communities.
