Have to say it's the right call. It's common enough that software (jdownloader2 comes to mind) will do the conversion automatically. it'd be super trivial for a bot crawling for DMCA links to add that functionality at some point.

But what if another layer was added? For example base64-encoded link to a pastebin which includes the direct link.
Seems like that'd fly.

I dont see why not but im not a mod. Its kinda depends what it is. I think ive seen links in newyuzupiracy

Admin says no, the links have to be to a middleman site without automatic redirects.
I thought db0 said b64 links were OK. It looks like that changed recently as initially there was b64 links allowed when the server was setup
