The witch looks like Annie's mom. This show brings more and more questions

Had the same thought. I expected her to call Anne by the name Vermilio as she was monologuing to herself while the boat was sailing away.

Am I the only one who thought the witch was literally Annie.. And as it turned out that the fuzzball joined on the boat to become her familiar. They randomly teleported to the island by way of magic, and overall the magic isn't well explained in the world building at all, so a temporal whoopsie or "oh god, Helck is destroying everything, do a terminator" last resort option are definitely still on the table.

Yeah it literally seemed like time-traveled Annie with Piwi after Helck goes Rogue and she's back to prevent it from first place.

Interesting idea! I have really enjoyed the slow, unspoken worldbuilding in this show so far. We see ruins that hint at a civilization mysteriously wiped out in antiquity, some vague, super dangerous threat to the north of the demon territory, some unexplained toxin permeating demon lands. All of this hints at deeper lore and a fleshed out world, but the story doesn't give us some huge exposition dump explaining things. It reminds me a ton of how Adventure Time very slowly builds its world over the course of many seasons, but still never really explains things, content to leave some questions unanswered or open to interpretation.

Wouldn't surprise me if it's that trope of, the ancient civilization was actually OUR WORLD ie Utawarerumino nor Etrian Odyssey 4.

Ancient ruins, Hidden continent from other continents, Ancient witch related by blood to Vermilio. Mystery only gets better and better.

We also have couple of cinematic shots here and there.
