All the 40 somethings in here: "Altered Beast!".

Everyone else: "Uh, what?"

[–] [email protected] 25 points 4 months ago

As a non 40 something can confirm

[–] [email protected] 17 points 4 months ago

I'm a simple man. I see Altered Beast, I upvote.

It's funny to see which things haven't transferred over through cultural osmosis through the years. I would have assumed most people here would still recognize this. Clearly I'm an out of touch relic!

Bro I'm early 30s and I was like "OHHHH SHIT MY CHILDHOOD!" haha

[–] [email protected] 6 points 4 months ago (3 children)

You must have older siblings, altered beast was released in 1988

[–] [email protected] 5 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Actually I'm the oldest! I just had a lot of games that weren't exactly cutting edge at the time lol

So nostalgic that you can hear it =)

[–] [email protected] 13 points 4 months ago

That’s exactly what I thought of. Great on Arcade

And rescue my daughter! I didn't resurrect you so that you could just lounge around. You've got a job to do!

"Nah." walks left instead of right

I, for the past several years, have seriously been saying this to my imaginary audience every morning when I wake up and engage the energy necessary to get to the kitchen and make a coffee. I had a girlfriend in 2019 that would get a kick out of it.

Arise from your grave.

I'd be surprised if there wasn't this exact comment.

I really like how the boss at the end rips it's own head off and throws it at you as a weapon.

Old game called "Altered Beast". You could transform into a few different beasts. Classic side-scrolling game.

[–] [email protected] 16 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Details of the game are here

Was a good 2 player monster beat-em-up.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 4 months ago (5 children)

Good is arguable... Out of all the Genesis games I had I played it the least. Toejam and Earl was where it's at.

I never saw an arcade cabinet for Altered Beast and only played it in Genesis where it was kind of a shit game compared to Golden Axe.

Imagine having to go on some adventure where you sleep directly on the desert floor and it's full of deadly hand-to-hand combat killing hundreds of people, and thinking, "I'm gonna wear my white and red bikini and red boots."

[–] [email protected] 12 points 4 months ago (2 children)

It was the 80's (Golden Axe released in 1989, to be specific) . It was the style of the time.

The consensus seems to be that people only played it because it came bundled with the console

[–] [email protected] 10 points 4 months ago (1 children)

If I had a nickel for every quarter I lost playing this in the arcade...

[–] [email protected] 8 points 4 months ago

Wow, I completely forgot about that game.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 4 months ago

God, I loved that game. I have spent so many fucking quarters in pizza parlors on that shit.
