Nice but I always found glorification and excitement with violence jarring. Too many people have this righteous justice fetish where they just look for an excuse to shoot someone. Somehow most are from USA but it could just be a coincidence.

Be like faramir "I do not love the bright sword for its sharpness, nor the arrow for its swiftness, nor the warrior for his glory. I love only that which they defend." Violence and its tools isn’t to be excited about in itself. It just sometimes is a morbid reality when all else fails.

Too many people would want to kill that thief excited to try out their new glock and too many people would applaud the doer.

Oh shit, my bad, iheartcheese. I didn't realize this space was restricted exclusively for high quality discourse. Judging from the beans, denim, tits, cats, and propaganda littering the front page of any non-filtered Lemmy aggregate, and given the general theme of a place called justpost, I just took it for granted that general shittery was the norm rather than the exception, ergo: memes, cliches, etc., welcome. My sincerest apologies. Obviously I'm the asshole here.

I rather take their hands. At least one hand, preferably in public, on international television for the world to see what is real justice. Eye for an eye, tooth for a tooth.

That's how you end up being a country with one of the highest incarceration rates.

Making sure people have good lives, good jobs, good education, and are financially stable is how you prevent crime from happening in the first place.

And rehabilitation will always be more effective at dealing with recidivism than outright punishment, punishment that invariably treats people as animals, fucks up their ability to socialize and trust others, etc.

Sorry, no authority needs to worry about how people handle their lives until they commit a crime. I don't need an authoritative figure to make sure I'm living a good life. That's MY responsibility, as an adult, not anyone else's.

So if a country's population is impoverished, lacking education, safe and sufficient food/water/housing, then it is none of the responsibility of its leaders? That is a ridiculous position.
