StupIDPol: A based critique of essentialism

A federated homage to the subreddit of the same name. The original idea is a marxist take on identity politics and the stupidity inherent in it, but we're fresh out of marxists to run this joint.

Until any marxists step forward to take over, this is a place to post well-tempered stories and commentary about the bonkers world of identity politics.

We got rules, so learn 'em:

Reem's did not immediately return Insider's request for comment on Sunday, but the bakery chain did post a statement to Instagram Friday that said that it strives to "foster an environment of safety for our staff and customers."

I think people should be happy about this. But nit for ACAB reasons or whatever, this is a private company and they have elected to not have any guns inside their store, cops included. Let cops eat somewhere else and let whoever wants to boycott do so.

But this freedom of speech”right to refuse service” goes for any other business. If a Nazi bar exists then they have the right to refuse service to non-Nazis.

Yeah, while I tend to agree, "nazi bar" is the can of worms that always comes with this kind of thing. We had real examples of that in the segregationist South. That's not a part of history that needs repeating, so a good argument for some limited government restrictions on how open a business needs to be.

I support the business's right to refuse service to cops while on duty and armed though. That's a different story than racism since a cop can come back after their shift (or even probably just leave their gun in the car). It's not refusing based on what they are, but rather on something they're doing at that moment.

That said, while I support the business's right to do this, I also think they're making a dumb decision. The good thing about America is you're free to be a dummy if you want.

That "something they are" vs "something they do" distinction is so subtle yet so critical.

The sensible, nuanced take.

Without that power nothing nice could exist.

Nothing gets me harder than exploiting technicalities. If they want to ban the cops, as useless as they are, let them!

The unintended result is the cop loses weight.
