Everyone's board starts out the same way, btw. Thursday's had "SMASH THAT LIKE BUTTON" on the top row.
Which was a weird one for me, because I didn't actually read the whole top row first, instead I read "SMASH", and then my eye skipped over to "HIT" on the second row, and I immediately thought "things people do to the Like button on YouTube".

Oh cool, didn't know that, maybe it's intentional? It would get the person thinking of the words in a certain context

100% it's intentional.
One body perch only
Am I doing it right? Nobody told me the rules to this game.

The board shows you 16 words or short phrases. The goal is to group these into 4 groups of 4 on a similar theme. So for example, today's solution:
spoiler
Layup, dunk, floater, three. All different kinds of basketball shots.
Perch, pike, skate, sole. All types of fish.
Body, bounce, lift, volume. All words you can use to describe the quality of someone's hair.
Flower, only, poster, problem. All form a phrase when placed alongside "child". So "only child", "poster child", etc.
They do unfortunately have a habit of often being a little overly American. But I'd say it's less often than once per week they're so America-centric that it causes me serious trouble getting the solution. (If I fail, it's more often because of a lack of knowledge that I can't attribute purely to not being American.)
The puzzle changes at midnight your own local time every day automatically, like most of these daily games. Here's the link.

Trying my best. Connections really demonstrates that english isn't my first language.
Btw, please always include a link to the game so others can easily find it.
