Hello new Lemmy friends!

Word on the street tells us our community is regularly making it the all page. While this is very cool news to hear, we can see how the sudden emergence of our posts in your feed might feel jarring and probably raises some questions. And also how, without knowing the backstory, our community might appear less than virtuous, so here’s a very brief introduction which hopefully will clear a few things up.

The woman we’re discussing is a body positive influencer and media personality who has gained fame and wealth by lying, manipulating, exploiting her children for content, plagiarizing BIPOC creators and blaming her BIPOC content editor for it (thereby ruining her career), among other things. Her fraudulent behavior is no different (I’d argue worse) from the likes of Jay Shetty (google him if you don’t know who he is or what he did). She’s the latest in a long line of grifting influencers who are abusing their power, taking advantage of their position and exploiting their followers. The difference is that she’s Canadian. Our laws around social media and advertising aren’t as clear (and where they are she’s disobeyed them), add to that, our mainstream media has protected her from those who’ve tried to expose her grift and silenced/intimidated anyone who’s tried to speak out.

Our Reddit sub was taken down due to reports of copyright infringement, which is unfounded and categorically untrue as no one ever tried to steal her work and pass it off as their own. The mods have made an appeal. While at first glance it may seem like we’re just “shitting on her” the sub has been more devoted to investigation and posting proof of her lies than just bitching for the sake of bitching. The reality is that she’s hurt, manipulated and let down a lot of people. She stole intellectual property and employment, caused mental distress and has repeatedly told lies to boost engagement and profit off her audience, so people are understandably upset that their voices are being silenced.

We’re grateful to have been welcomed so kindly by so many of you, and to those sticking around to watch the drama unfold, we’re glad to have you!

This is the smallest I’ve seen her warp to? I can’t. I just can’t with this. 😡I am so angry that she does this and so many don’t catch it. It’s effing with people’s brains and they don’t even realize it

This post made me wanna go to reddit snark page and I was horrored as I got to notice it has been banned. This is outrageous. She does this and she gets the reddit snark BANNED?? Who is she paying and how much??

[–] [email protected] 4 points 4 months ago

It happened almost two weeks ago. We are very upset! Its bullshit.

I don’t know if you watched her stories yesterday but I found the write up under her daughter’s art piece really troubling. I would never post it here but I really wonder what’s going on in that family.

[–] [email protected] 11 points 4 months ago (1 children)

I agree. She posted a pic of her art with the description below it. Then she shared a close up photo of an art description that was not her daughters but she didn’t disclose that until way later. I’m guessing she told Sarah to correct it. Very manipulative.

[–] [email protected] 12 points 4 months ago

it's really bizarre. I worry for the kids. It's like Sarah didn't want to share the description. Oh I'll just share another kids. There are many red flags. I'll zip it.

same. Something is up.

I don’t think people are processing that there’s differences or something. They’re blinded by this hugely arrogant character she’s created and people are eating it up because you know ‘body positivity and girl power ✌🏻😑😑😑🙄🙄🙄

You know actually upsets me about this pic and Sarah lately? The fact that she has lost weight, quite a bit, and she’s continuing to lose weight, and doesn’t talk about it, or address it in anyway. I think that’s the bigger mind fuck here. That she’s shrinking, cutting calories, and pretending nothing is happening. Funny, I just caught a small creator talking about the wave of thinness hitting us right now and how it directly correlates with suppressing female empowerment. And it’s funny to me how Sarah, who’s built her platform on body positivity, is losing weight right on trend.

I don’t know if she actually is. Have you seen the Getty photos from SI?

[–] [email protected] 9 points 4 months ago (2 children)

There’s been a lot of debate about it on here. But without a doubt she’s lost weight. I’ve seen all the pics. Compare last years Knix shoot to the Getty pics, it’s hard to deny.

[–] [email protected] 11 points 4 months ago

I agree she’s likely lost some but not as much as in this picture.

I agree with you. I actually think seeing herself in the Reitman’s AD last year was too much for her and that started the weight loss. I think she’s afraid to talk about it.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 4 months ago

Very well said. I feel the wave of thinness as well. Janette posted an article about women displaying muscle out of necessity. Makes sense. https://www.nytimes.com/2024/03/29/t-magazine/female-bodybuilder-fashion.html

[–] [email protected] 1 points 4 months ago

Excellent point!!!!!

[–] [email protected] 11 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Ya this is bonkers af. She’s def lost weight. But then she filters it down to this? And I’m sure people are asking her if she’s ok and she’s not addressing it.

Another thing I’ve noticed lately is her speaking mannerisms are all over the place. She will bounce from Uber Canadian “sorrey” and “aboot” to California valley girl lispy and vocal fry.

She’s so…well I don’t want to sound like I’m diagnosing so I’ll stop there. Y’all know. But this shit is bananas. B a n a n a s !!!!

Okay so… For some reason, my algorithm showed me this troublesome and triggering for me at least ad. I think maybe there are going to be some influencers come out very soon saying that they have been using this product. What do you all think? It seems that some comments that people have made regarding loss of body volume might be gearing up for affiliate links . Now to clarify, everybody’s body is a good body! And everybody deserves body autonomy and can choose to do what they would like to do to their bodies, including take medications, or have surgeries if they so choose. I just can’t help but predict a possible affiliate code for this specific product coming up for quite a few of our “sparkle” repped influencers. Thoughts?

I finally remembered to Google this. Yeah very possibly correct on your part. It is a brand she likes I believe. Horseshit. Its ingredients are nothing special at ALL. I can’t believe (yes I can) they are calling it faux-zempic. It’s vitamin b, chromium, green tea, & probiotics. Give me a fucking break fauxzempic my fat ass!! It would be very troubling if she started shilling this!

[–] [email protected] 2 points 4 months ago

I’ve got my diy “called it” shirt ready;)

[–] [email protected] 10 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago)

She’s a bigger boned woman (or at least bigger than she portrays here) and there’s nothing wrong that. I’m actually petite and her shoulders look narrower than mine here.

[–] [email protected] 10 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago) (1 children)

More like she doesn’t care. The coffee hasn’t hit yet and I misread this😂. I have to wonder though for someone who has claimed to have an ED why her followers don’t question the changes in her daily/hourly appearance.

[–] [email protected] 12 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago)

I wonder if her long timers do question her but since she’s always posting in stories they are sending dms that go unanswered. She looks positively waif-like in this pic and it really calls back to her skinniest days

ETA - We all know she doesn’t look like this. This isn’t the face and body that was on the SI runway so why does she do it?

He just putting it out there, if anyone wants to choose their own fabrics, and make their own “squirrel suit” (called harem rompers usually), just search for harem romper patterns (On Etsy, etc. or just online anywhere really). Patterns are usually under 15$. You can then ask a local seamstress to make a romper for you, or you can make it yourself. You can even up cycle fabric like T-shirt fabric. I would recommend a jersey fabric, but if you want something more lightweight, you can get a linen blend. Just remember that linen will shrink so you need to pre-wash. Another alternative if you jumped on the bandwagon to buy jersey sheets years ago, and are not using them, you can use those! There are so many local sewing groups as well, and it builds a sense of community. There are so many people who would help others make their own items and if you don’t have a sewing machine, there are also community places that allow you to rent or borrow them, but honestly hiring someone to make one for you once you buy your own pattern, and choose your own fabric is so cool! After I heard about the manufacturing changing over to where S&T uses, I think if you want to support actual small businesses, this is an option:).

[–] [email protected] 5 points 4 months ago

you are the best!

[–] [email protected] 4 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago) (1 children)

Love this! I have a sewing machine so maybe this will be one of my summer projects. Not that I need more rompers lol (S&T “fan” til they blocked me for liking a less than positive comment about SNL 🤦🏻‍♀️).

[–] [email protected] 4 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Is this S&T romper a Knock Off of the Free People’s Hot Shot Onesie?

[–] [email protected] 4 points 4 months ago

Probably, wouldn’t be the first or last time they’ve stolen something.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 4 months ago

Another ugly one piece. Fun
