My criticism of effective altruism is that it prioritizes actions that increase hypothetical "future happiness" over actions that could make a positive impact on someone's life today.

The future is unknown and we can't control it. I'm not saying we shouldn't try to do better in the future, but not at the cost of doing badly today.
