My father dug into our family history and I learned one incredible life-changing fact from it. One of our ancestors was an American who fought in the USA revolution… on the side of the British. He had to move Canada because of the harassment after the war after his barn was burned down.

The only way that changed my life was that it gave me an awesome bit of trivia that is hilarious to drop in conversation.

Lots of Loyalists were given land in modern-day Ontario after the war. I'm sure lingering resentment had nothing to do with that slight incident in Washington in the War of 1812, LOL.

Thanks for these posts! I found a pair of profiles on WikiTree which are a strong match for a pair of my great great grandparents. I've messaged a DNA match on 23andMe who shares their last name to see if they have any additional info.
