You will not speak unless you are spoken to, phone.

[–] [email protected] 23 points 6 months ago (1 children)

Oh, I've deactivated any voice activated anything on my phone.

[–] [email protected] 12 points 6 months ago

Oh, that's not what I meant. I meant "spoken to" as in, like, when I turn sound on to watch a video or something like that.

My phone only goes off silent on the rare occasions I've been asked to be on call for an emergency project at work.

So like three times in the last ten years.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 6 months ago

My phone would stay on silent regardless...

I've found that "do not disturb" + allowing all contacts trough is actually quote nice.

If I turn it off I get spam like "your google drive storage is running out" (has been for the last 2 years), "automatic payment for the subscription you've had for 5 years went through", "would you like to rate my app on Google play?", blah blah blah

ye you can turn them off individually, but I've not missed anything important in a year since my phone has been on "do not disturb" all the time

I'm using an aged chinaphone (Xiaomi Redmi4x) and their UI comes with a pre-installed app called "Info Assistent". I fucking hate that thing. I fucking hate it. It constantly spams me with shit like current weather, tomorrow's weather, useless soccer results that I don't care about, the literal content of the waste bin, cache data... It spams about 5 times a day. I cannot revoke its rights, I cannot uninstall it, I cannot shut it down. The suckage is forced on me, why?

Run the xiaomi.eu ROMs (or lineage if you don't like miui at all) or use one of the various debloat scripts over ADB. Take a look over on XDA, Xiaomi phones are incredibly well supported by the modding/custom rom community.

Ow I might try that one out

[–] [email protected] 2 points 6 months ago

I'll give that a try, thanks!

I've heard about this thing in Chinese culture where people value the ability to replace their phone cheaply and easily over personalizing their thing to suit them, and hanging on to things.

Considering this phone is Chinese, I'm guessing this might be one reason why?

You mean App vault? I have the same model. After disabling notifications of it, it only bothers me on the homescreen.

[–] [email protected] 10 points 6 months ago (1 children)

What about when you need to actually use do not disturb? I have it on at night to stop my phone buzzing when my idiot morning friends message me

It still works, you can edit the settings. But if you want one ez pz button for silence and still have your alarm work, I suggest airplane mode

I'm so glad the era of custom ringtones came and went. It was fun while it lasted but it got old pretty quick. I can't even remember the last time I heard someone else's phone ring in public.

[–] [email protected] 17 points 6 months ago

They say you can’t hear a picture…

[–] [email protected] 9 points 6 months ago

I still have the same custom ringtones/alerts set from when I got my first smartphone. Of course I rarely hear them since it's on silent 99% of the time. But the custom vibration patterns are indispensable.

[–] [email protected] 15 points 6 months ago

Who doesn't like a nice, sudden, startle?

[–] [email protected] 10 points 6 months ago

Same here. That stupid thing makes me anxious even though it's perma muted.

[–] [email protected] 10 points 6 months ago

The commercial ad-pushing surveillance device.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 6 months ago (1 children)

Me, a phone collector who enjoys listening to ringtones:

[–] [email protected] 4 points 6 months ago (1 children)

I bet you don't even have a single terabyte of ringtones. Amateur /j

[–] [email protected] 2 points 6 months ago

Just ringtones? How about the different MIDI libraries?

[–] [email protected] 6 points 6 months ago (1 children)

I keep my ringtone and most of my notifications on silent, but I keep a chime on for certain DMs because there's some people I just really wanna talk to badly enough that I wanna know instantly the second they message me.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 6 months ago

The annoying thing is that notifications really don't seem to be designed around that concept that you choose which people or bits of information are important to you.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 6 months ago* (last edited 6 months ago)

If my phone isn't as loud as I can make it using ringtones and notifications that have been modified to be about 14db higher, I don't even notice it. I use the MGS ! sound for most things so if people look at me when my phone goes off, it's appropriate.

"Fuck! I've been spotted!"

[–] [email protected] 5 points 6 months ago

And I still double check every time.

This sounds more like anger management issues than autism.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 6 months ago

Anger issues are part of autism.
