My humble takes on the most popular Lemmy instances, or "how to piss off the whole Fediverse with a single meme".

Here are the links to each one of the mentioned instances:

Far Left Centre Left Centre Right Far Right
Lemmygrad Exploding Heads
Hexbear Lemmy.ml Lemmy.world
Beehaw Pricefield Lemmy Based Count sh.itjust.works
Blåhaj Lemmy Divisions by zero Lemmy NSFW Hack Liberty

Ugh. So now I need to migrate to yet another instance…

[–] [email protected] 15 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Small instances is the best way to enjoy the fediverse. You get to sit on the sidelines, laugh at the losers that get caught in defederation drama while remaining able to access every community on every instance.

I'm not saying that you should necessarily move here, there's plenty of other instances out there. Howeeeeeever... ;)

[–] [email protected] 9 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Im on lemm.ee, where do we stand? Idk who we defederated tbh

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I feel like lemm.ee is dead center, or maybe a little left of center because of explicitly prohibiting far right-wing instances. Because of the admins' policy of defederation being the last resort, lemm.ee is pretty much open to most.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

As I said I didn't know much about lemm.ee but that policy is tremendously based.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

I made this tool just yesterday to check that. Don't try to use it, it's currently broken because too many people used it and dried up my free use quota.

Anyway, IIRC lemm.ee hasn't been defederated by anyone. You can see who they have defederated over here. There's Meta threads, a few porn instances as well as a bunch of other lemmies I don't really know. Maybe they're spam instances, idk.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I knew that tool was going to rocket to popularity. Simple QoL things like that that Lemmy needs.

In a parallel universe, you’d be swimming in gold and platinum coins kind stranger lol

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

Thank you, I really appreciate it. Meanwhile, in this universe, I might have to pay $20 just to keep the lights on lol.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago

I actually quite enjoy seeing some instances push to compete and take "customers" away from other, especially larger, instances. It's almost like market forces are possible

[–] [email protected] 15 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

Oh shit pcm is here? Been waiting for you losers, based and took ya long enough pilled!

Heads up BTW lemmy.world didn't defederate us last I checked, they blocked our piracy community (still lame) but I think I can still interact with lemmy.world, their users just can't see [email protected] posts.

Also, not sure we're as libleft as we seem. They asked "favorite anarchists" and the farthest left my list got was "SEKIII," also had RAW, Lysander, and Murray in there, and they let me in, so it can't be tooooo left, I think we're technically monke.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Based and welcome pilled. Actually we've been around for over almost two months now. The instance isn't as old because at one point during our first two weeks I fucked up and accidentally deleted the database. Ooopsie.

Heads up BTW lemmy.world didn’t defederate us last I checked

Well my bad on that one, then. I was sure I had read the word "defed" somewhere, but seeing as neither of those is my instance I didn't care enough to verify.

I don't doubt you guys are libs, I just wasn't sure whether to put you on the left or right side. Personally I classify anarchism as more of a left thing than a right one, so that's where it came from.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Oh I've been here for 2y lol, just on .ml before db0.

Yeah no problem, just letting you know.

And yeah monke is libcenter, I'd say considering they let me in knowing who I liked, they can't be fully green. And there are right leaning forms of anarchism and right anarchists, if right v left = individualism v collectivism.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (2 children)

My apologies, ancient one lol

I’d say considering they let me in knowing who I liked

This reminds me, I really should start working on adding flairs to this instance, it's hard to remember what side people are on without the funni colours next to their names.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Def need the funni colors.

Shit wait I'm lacking! Flair up you dirty unflaired scum!

(Man that felt good, been too long lmao.)

Yeah the website is still unusable due to this.

I saw this meme, checked out the instance and saw PCM and immediately migrated. I'm home.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 year ago

Based and welcome home pilled. I'm unironically honoured to read this.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 year ago

Welcome home my child.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Heavy work! what conservative community did sh.itjust.works defed btw?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

I think it was a Marxist community that poped up like 5 months ago that the admin nuked. Cause they were asshats

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

That was a remake of the subreddit r/TheDonald. It took the admin a while to take it down and everyone started calling them Trump supporters for that. This was at the start of the Reddit migration.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

The "sh.itjust.works" thing makes me terrified I just joined literally another Reddit. Was hoping for a politically open or even centrist place to hang out. :/

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

Nah don't worry. sh.itjust.works is one of the more politically mild instances out there, perhaps only beaten by lemm.ee. Plus they host some very funny communities and very few blocked instances. Among the big players, it's one of the best picks for a home instance.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 year ago (1 children)

This is actually really useful to get my bearings.

[–] [email protected] 10 points 1 year ago

Keep in mind it's just some dude's opinion. Don't make the mistake of assuming I know what I'm talking about.

"Free speech"

Auth

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Where do you put lem.ee on this chart?

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago (2 children)

I'm not all that familiar with lemm.ee but their sidebar and admin policy looks quite well balanced to me. Might they be the one true Centrist instance?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

Yes, pure centrists. Lemm.ee FTW.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago

Worth noting lemmy.world didn't defederate us (dbzeo0) they just blocked c/piracy and a few other communities

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago (5 children)

How is the community of "free speech absolutists" placed in the authoritarian region? That sound like maximum libertarian to me.

[–] [email protected] 27 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Free speech absolutist is just a buzzword.

It’s actually used by most people to mean “absolute free speech for me, so I can censor others”

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

I'll agree that they aren't monarchists, they would probably be better placed in the lower AuthRight quadrant. However I still think they're on the Auth side. Most of Lemmy likes to call them Nazis, though I think that isn't necessarily true. Most of them are just Trump supporters.

This is surprisingly accurate and helpful. I miss at least one /kbin instance though.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

Yeah sorry, these are the ones I've heard the most about / visit more often. I don't really know much about kbin at all. I think their shitty software makes them pretty much immune from fediverse drama, as you have no (easy) way of knowing which instances were defederated by a kbin one.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Hack Liberty's admins are conspiracy nuts. I talked to them on their Matrix rooms. Man are they bonkers.

If someone is a little off their rockers, that might affect their ability to be a good moderator.
