Is Wikipedia reliable?

Tl;dr - Yes!

Oversimplified answer - Wikipedia articles can be edited by anyone, but claims must have a reliable source.

Simplified answer - Claims must be cited, and the sources must be secondary - i.e. you cannot cite a research paper, you have to cite a reputable newspaper that covers the research paper. This ensures someone with a good track record has validated the information and put their reputation on the line. If you see a page violate this rule, edit the page and add an unreliable source tag. Remember, Wikipedia does not try to be the first to report on an event, or have the complete information of an event.
