It's incredible how every Islamic faction that's involved has been way more cautious and careful for this entire conflict than Israel. I really admire their restraint! Israel is trying to escalate things left and right, but every other faction is trying to keep things from blowing up.

If Biden doesn't jump on this then he wants Trump to win.

Israel has nukes and is itching to use them.

Watch as the US still doesn't press Israel into a ceasefire. It's becoming increasingly apparent that conflict in the Middle East isn't an unfortunate circumstance but a goal of American foreign policy.

America? Wanting instability in an oil-rich region? That's pretty much as optimally equidistant from the most major first-world economies as is possible?

No. Way.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 7 months ago (1 children)

America does want an unstable middle east but tbf the middle east is basically next to Europe, which really felt the past few refugee crises.

[–] [email protected] 11 points 7 months ago (1 children)

America also seem to want an unstable Europe recently

[–] [email protected] 13 points 7 months ago (1 children)

An unstable Europe buys American weapons.

And it easier to scare, control and exploit.

[–] [email protected] 60 points 7 months ago (2 children)

Well that's just threatening them with a good time.

Netanyahu doesn't want a ceasefire and he does want Iran to attack and draw the US into the conflict.

[–] [email protected] 51 points 7 months ago (2 children)

And this is Iran trying to defuse that trap. They've explicitly told the US not to take the bait on it, and are offering an olive branch instead of insisting that the only option is blood for blood.

Of course the message won't land, but imo they're being pretty clear about it.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 7 months ago (1 children)

I think you're right. I hope some of that message gets through to those Israeli people who actually do want a ceasefire.

The polling I've seen suggests the Israeli people are bloodthirsty as fuck.

1.8% said they believed the IDF was using too much fire power, while 4.2% said they weren’t sure whether it was using too much or too little firepower.

Support for peace negotiations with the Palestinian Authority among Israeli Jews fell from 47.6% in favor in September to just 24.5% in favor in the survey conducted between Oct. 23 and Oct. 28.

Note that the Palestinian Authority is the comprador gov't of the west bank. These people don't even want Israel to negotiate with their own puppets.

I mean to be fair this data is from October. Not expecting much, but the data is probably different now.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 7 months ago

That survey was less than a month after it happened.

It wouldn’t have surprised me if it had been higher.

Checkers and chess. I hope a cloud hangs over the land for a thousand years

Edit: spelling

[–] [email protected] 1 points 7 months ago (1 children)

What happens after a thousand years?

[–] [email protected] -1 points 7 months ago* (last edited 7 months ago)

It’ll be ten feet underwater I hope.

Netanyahu only wants one thing, and it’s to stay in power for as long as possible. If a regional war gives that to him (via Ben-Gvir), he won’t mind.

Edit: He currently holds a parliamentary majority. If he agrees to a ceasefire, the more extreme members of his coalition will no-confidence him together with the opposition. And, as it stands right now, he has no chance of participating in the next government.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 7 months ago

Pretty sure he needs conflict to stay in power and he needs power to shield him.

When Trump imposes fascism in the USA, think back on how Israel fucked us over.

Who I predict will be blamed:

  • Russian bots
  • TikTok
  • Gen Z and/or Millenials
  • The fediverse
  • Hamas
  • Our homeboy from Philly, Bibi Netanyahu
  • Anyone but Biden, just as in 2016 it was anyone but Clinton

[–] [email protected] 23 points 7 months ago (1 children)

The US is already a fascist regime and has been for longer than either of us have been alive.

[–] [email protected] 29 points 7 months ago* (last edited 7 months ago)

Nonsense, it’s not fascism until the pointy end is facing me, until then it’s sparkling oppression.
