The purpose of sleep and dreaming is believed to be related to memory you learn stuff during the day and create/revisit most memories at night. We have the technology to make AI dream now that we have generative AI models and this can be used to compress the entire dataset of everthing ever learned into a model of information that can be used to update the network to prevent the AI from forgetting stuff it has learned during the sleep period. An advanced AI could collect information during the day then have the the network updated at night.
